A useful roofing estimate should make the project basis, removal scope, products, hidden-cost rules, payment terms, warranty wording, exclusions, and timing visible in writing. A blank does not prove an item is included or excluded; it leaves a question to resolve.
Use the questions below before comparing totals or signing. They describe BidHound's document-review categories, not universal contract or code requirements.

Five states keep blanks from becoming assumptions
Specified / included
The written estimate says the item is part of the scope. Compare the exact product, quantity, coverage, conditions, and responsibility.
Explicitly excluded
The estimate says the item is outside the price or scope. Ask who handles it and what it may cost.
Allowance or unit price
The estimate gives a provisional amount or per-unit price. Confirm the trigger, quantity, approval process, and final calculation.
Not specified
The written estimate does not answer the category. A blank is an unanswered question, not an inclusion or exclusion.
Not applicable
The category does not apply to this project. Use this only when the written facts support that conclusion.
Federal consumer guidance says written home-improvement estimates should identify the work, materials, completion date, and price, and recommends asking about large differences between estimates. Indiana consumer guidance recommends seeking multiple written estimates and avoiding full payment upfront. Those external resources are separate from BidHound's document comparison.
Read the fictional sample first. The prepared email asks for your city and state, residential asphalt-roof confirmation, bid count, role, main question, what decision the sample helps with, and what you would choose at $97. Completing the prompts may avoid a follow-up.
If you manage properties or association projects, also include approximately how many eligible roofing projects you compared in the past 90 days and when you may next need a comparison.
Do not send bids, attachments, street addresses, client names or payment information.
If the button does not open your email app, write support@trybidhound.com with the subject “Roof comparison inquiry”. Include the same project details above and no attachments or sensitive information.
